The reading

How it began

Oswald Milser, a local lord, came to Mass at Seefeld in 1384 and insisted on receiving a large Host, the kind kept for exposition, because he would not be given the same as the peasants. At the communion the floor softened. He clutched the altar and went down until his knees were in the stone. He asked for the ordinary Host. He was pulled out. The impression in the pavement is what the church shows, and a Host was kept as well.

The day itself

The shrine became a pilgrimage of the region. The stone is the object, more than a laboratory sample. The story is a judgment on a man who thought the Sacrament had sizes.

Reading

How to read Seefeld

There is one Christ in every fragment and in the whole. That is ordinary doctrine, taught without a knight. Seefeld is the doctrine arriving as a floor.
