The reading
How it began
Louise dies six months before Vincent, in 1660. The Daughters keep her relics with a founder’s care. The body, later placed in the chapel of the Miraculous Medal, is a presence in the same room as the 1830 apparitions — a coincidence of geography that has become a pilgrimage sentence: the woman who organized the poor, the woman who saw Mary, the medal.
The day itself
Louise de Marillac died in Paris on 15 March 1660, a few months before Vincent. She was buried in the chapel of the Visitation and later moved. What the pilgrim sees today is in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, 140 Rue du Bac: her body, clothed as a Daughter of Charity, in a glass shrine on one side of the sanctuary. Across the chapel is the body of Catherine Labouré, and the chair of the 1830 apparitions stands in the same sanctuary. The geography is an accident of later burials that became a pilgrimage sentence — the woman who wrote the rule and trained the sisters, and the novice who saw Our Lady in that house. Louise’s letters are the real file of her mind: anxious, exact, unwilling to let charity be a feeling without a timetable. Pius XI canonized her on 11 March 1934. John XXIII named her patron of social workers. The body is shown as a founder’s relic in the care of her congregation. It is not presented as a second apparition.

How to read The Body of St. Louise de Marillac
Louise is the intellect of Vincent’s charity — the rules, the training, the refusal to let kindness be chaos. Incorruption, here, is almost administrative: she remains in the house.
