Pray
Hours and meditations
This is the library. It is not Pray now. Short and long meditations, chants, and the hours sit here. A prayer you can say at once is on Pray now.
Meditations
Short, medium, and long. A scene, a silence, a close.
Chants
The Church’s own hymns, Latin and English, said or sung on one note.
4 min
Salve Regina
The Hail, Holy Queen, as the Church sings it at the end of the day from Trinity Sunday until Lent. Latin, then English. Say it on one note if you have no chant teacher. The words are the chant.
4 min
Tantum ergo
Saint Thomas Aquinas, sung at Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. This is the Church’s public answer to the question of the Host.
5 min
Veni Creator Spiritus
The hymn of the Holy Spirit, sung at Pentecost, ordinations, and councils. Pray it when you have a decision that is too large for your temper.
The hours
Angelus, mercy, a novena, night prayer.
5 min
The Angelus
Morning, noon, and evening. A bell, if you have one. Three Hail Marys and the memory of the Incarnation. In Eastertide the Church prays the Regina Caeli instead.
10 min
The hour of mercy
Three o’clock, the hour the Church remembers Christ’s death. Saint Faustina’s chaplet is a devotion the Holy See has approved for use. It does not replace the Mass.
6 min
Novena to Saint Michael
Nine days, ending on 29 September if you can. A devotion, not a precept. The same prayer each day, said once, without bargaining.
10 min
Night prayer
A short Compline for a house without a choir. Examination, a psalm verse, the Nunc Dimittis, and the Salve.
Scripture plans
John in a week. The psalter in thirty days.
15 min
Seven days with Saint John
A week in the Gospel the Church reads at Christmas and at Easter. One chapter a day. The Bible in this App is the World English Bible, Catholic edition.
8 min
Thirty days of psalms
The Church’s own prayer book. Five psalms a day would finish the psalter; this plan is gentler: one psalm a day for thirty days, beginning at Psalm 1.
Catechism paths
The four parts of the Catechism, by paragraph, without a pasted copyright.
20 min
Catechism path: the Creed
Part One of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs 26–1065. What the Church believes. This path tells you how to read it. It does not paste a copyrighted text.
20 min
Catechism path: the Sacraments
Part Two, CCC 1066–1690. How the Church celebrates what the Church believes. The Mass is the centre, not a chapter among equals.
20 min
Catechism path: life in Christ
Part Three, CCC 1691–2557. The commandments, the beatitudes, and the moral life. Charity first, then clarity.
20 min
Catechism path: prayer
Part Four, CCC 2558–2865. Prayer, and the Our Father line by line.
