Le Laus

Sanctuary of Our Lady of Laus

A shepherdess, Benoîte Rencurel, met Mary in the high Alps in 1664 and for decades after. A refuge for sinners, a smell of perfume the place is still known for, a sanctuary of reconciliation. Approved in 2008 — one of the rare modern yeses to an old French apparition.

Saint-Étienne-le-Laus, AlpsFeast The May pilgrimage; 4 May for Benoîte Rencurel

The pilgrimage

Why this road exists

To go to confession. Laus exists for that. The lady called it a refuge for sinners, not a viewpoint.

How the days are spent

The mountains do half the preaching. Benoîte did the other half, for fifty years, without a publicist.

The signs of this place

The apparition, the Gospel sign, the body, the image — whatever this place is known for, told as a file of its own.
